Yesterday, a friend and I went to a vegan food festival in Barra da Tijuca, and I want to share it with you. It is still going today, in case you want to go as well. The location is along the main avenue from Praia da Barra, close to building 6270.

The festival is small, but you have live music, speakers and lots of food and other vegan products (dog food, cosmetics, fabric etc.). Also, you really don’t have to be vegan to enjoy the festival, as the food is just GOOD, no matter your diet preferences. So, let’s go through some of the things we ate:

Wrap of eggplant ‘bolinhos’

These wraps were really really tasty, and you had the choice to get them with falafel “bolinhos” or eggplant, which is what you see in the picture. One wrap was about the size of your fist and costs 10reais.

Now, I did not know what Jaca was, so the girl at this particular stand explained to me that it is jackfruit, which they use for the coxinhas as the texture is similar to meat. I had never eaten jackfruit before and was a little nervous about how it would taste. The darker bolinho is made from feijoada beans and filled with smoked tofu. Both were delightful.

Possibly our favorite from the savory options, the falafel burger stood out because of its incredible bread, and the flavor combination. We got the Namaste version, which came with Chutney and it was OH SO GOOD! The juices as well, I had the ginger one and it burnt away all my remaining sickness.

Now, as a dessert for me (my friend had this before everything else) we got unicorn cones. The chocolate spread tastes like Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and the strawberries gave the cone a fresh aspect!

The whole visit to the festival was a win-win for tastebuds! Also, it was the first time I went to Barra da Tijuca but most certainly not the last. This was the view on our way home:
